Aruba is a small island in Caribbean Sea (only 33 kilometers or about 20 miles long), yet is one of the favorite tourist sites to go on vacation in the region. Because of its size, some people may ask "Where to go in Aruba?". First, foreign travelers have a good chance to see most landmarks during their vacation in the upscale resorts and all inclusive hotels. Like in any Caribbean holiday destination, the most important attractions are the beaches. The west coast of Aruba is filled with tourist sites dotted with hotels and the seashore is packed with lots of people. Besides regular tanning and swimming, they offer all kinds of water activities, including snorkeling, diving, water-skiing, parasailing and kite-surfing, to name just a few. The coastline on the other side of the island is more secluded and lined with beautiful coves. Swimming there, excepting some sites in the southeastern corner where are protected areas with shallow water, is not a good idea, as there are huge waves and a strong undertow. However, all beaches in Aruba are open to public use, so travelers can go everywhere and explore each corner in silence and peace.
After a day of lounging on a magnificent white-sand strand, vacationers can show off their perfect tan and dive into Aruba's nightlife. There are many nightclub and bars on the island, most of them being located in the vacation areas with high-end resorts and hotels. Besides dancing, they have also folklore performances and fire shows. Still, the favorite nighttime activity in Aruba is not dancing or clubbing, but it is gambling! There are casino in most luxury resorts offering games like poker, blackjack, roulette, and of course, Caribbean Stud Poker, a variety of the famous card game that was invented in Aruba. The age limit for gambling in Aruba is 18 years, so US citizens under 21 can take delight in gambling when go on vacation to this Caribbean destination. The Las Vegas-style casino "Stellaris" is one of the renowned gambling sites on the island, is situated in Aruba Marriot Resort on the popular Palm Beach, and offers entertainment 24 hours a day.
There are also numerous things to do and vacation attractions in Aruba for nature and culture lovers. Arikok National Park takes up 18% of the island and provides a unique opportunity to see clustered together lava, limestone, and quartz diorite formations. The windy seacoast of the island features several caves with mysterious deep chambers. Hundreds of bats live in Guadirikiri Caves, while the Fontein Cave has on its ceilings drawings left by Arawak Indians, making it a historical landmark. Two interesting museums, Numismatic Museum and Archeology Museum, are located downtown Oranjestad, being easy accessible to all tourists seeking for cultural points of interest. Kids love the Butterfly Farm, a site where thousands of colorful butterflies have found their home in a tropical garden, and the Ostrich Farm, with more than 80 specimens of world's largest birds. People who like ostriches might also want to visit the "Donkey Sanctuary" in Santa Lucia, a farm where they can interact with the donkeys in their own environment.
Through the plethora of things to do in Aruba, some foreign voyagers choose shopping. On the island is available a large selection of brand name products with prices much lower than in the United States - and it is all duty free! There are new shopping and entertainment centers in most vacation resorts, filled with prestigious brands of jewelry, clothing, and perfumes. Even the European brands are cheaper there than in Europe! Tourists who are not interested in trendy fashion can look around in hundreds of kiosk and shops that line the streets in order to buy souvenir for themselves and their friends. There are also big malls and marketplaces in downtown Oranjestad and the high rise vacation area, some of the largest being the "Royal Plaza", "Renaissance Marketplace", and "South Beach Mall". In conclusion, Aruba is a perfect holiday paradise where to go on vacation filled with a multitude of tourist attractions and many things to do to everyone.
